- Born in Chicago Illinois on December 29, 1974
- Attended Chicago's Harlan High School
- Drafted in the 6th round of the 1994 MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics
- Made his major league debut with the Pirates in 1997 in a limited role
- Became an everyday centerfielder (one of the coolest baseball jobs) with Pittsburgh in 2001, but could never deliver on his promise as a 5 tool prospect
- Traded to the San Diego Padres. Played for five MLB teams in his 10 year career:
Pittsburgh Pirates (1997–2001)
San Diego Padres (2001)
Kansas City Royals (2005–2007)
Oakland Athletics (2008)
New York Mets (2009)
I think I named this site after him b/c as an 80's baby (1989) the only 'good' Pirates team I can remember from growing up with was 1997's 'Freak Show' Pirates that went 79-83 and narrowly missed the playoffs. Emil & Adrian Brown probably both made the promotional giveaway lunchbox I got for attending a Pirates game that year. I got "see an MLB no-hitter" off my bucket list before I was old enough to know baseball is boring when I saw Francisco Cordova and Ricardo Rincon combine for a no-hitter in the '97 season. Selfishly the 1997 Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the best seasons in the history of baseball in my opinion. In Shawon Dunston we trust.
